Definition

  • according to Hottinger (2006):

ORBITOLITID STRUCTURE - an arrangement of endoskeletal elements as in Orbitolites: apertural axes oblique in respect to the radial direction in the discoidal shell, overcrossing and superposed in radial positions in neighbouring stolon planes. So far, only septular (i.e. continuous) endoskeletal elements are known to follow the orbitolitid pattern of stolon axes. Orbitolinid structure is basically the same as orbitolitid structure, but it produces radial subdivisions within a discoidal chamber whereas the orbitolitid structure produces subdivsions of an annular chamber.
