  • according to Hottinger (2006):

VENTRAL - the side of a flattened organism turned to its substrate, as opposed to dorsal. Secondarily flattened, almost planispiral or slightly reversed-spiral, involute shells like Daviesina salsa (Davies et Pinfold) or D. langhami Smout reveal their trochospiral phyletic origin by an asymmetric, ventral position of the main cameral foramen and of the umbilical plate.
