  • according to Hottinger (2006):

UMBILICAL CANAL SYSTEM - umbilical interlocular space transformed into tubular cavities by various skeletal elements and chamber wall extensions (folia). Commonly modified by local resorption to create a network of communications between the tubular cavities.
