'''SPIROTHECA''' is the free outer wall of fusiform larger foraminifera, in particular of fusulinids, that constitutes the chamber roof and forms a spiral in equatorial section. Deposits on the chamber floor (tectorium, basal layer) of the next whorl are often included in the term. The term's equivalent in discoidal-involute planispiral shells would be "spiral sheet".
