Endobenthic means living within the sediment of a sea floor. Endobenthic foraminifera are usually informally called infaunal. They are mostly detritivores. Most likely all of them are vagile (mobile), thus, they can move free within the substratum. It is usually the topmost 15 cm of the sediment. The uppermost 0-1 cm is the most densely inhabited part of sediment (see Fig. 1).
